The team

When they won the Junior Davis Cup, Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime challenged each other to lead the senior team one day. That moment came... and they did not disappoint. The young Canadian tennis players (19 and 18, respectively) won against Slovakia - and won their place in the Davis Cup Madrid Finals.

Did you know?

Denis Shapovalov learned a hard lesson in his second participation in the Davis Cup: in an outburst of frustration he hit a ball with all his strength which unfortunately impacted in the eye of the chair umpire, who suffered a serious injury. He was disqualified, and his team lost the duel against Great Britain.

He took over from his former coach, Martin Laurendeau, in 2018. He has been one of the 'faithful' to the Davis Cup, in which he has participated since 2002, with the only exceptions of 2008 and 2017, which earned him the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Commitment Award.
