Chile was a Davis Cup finalist in 1976. The National Stadium of Santiago de Chile hosted the clash with the Italy of Adriano Panatta, Corrado Barazzutti and Paolo Bertolucci, who gave no option to Jaime Fillol and Patricio Cornejo, legends of Chilean tennis.

Captain: Nicolas Massu

Nico Massú, Olympic singles and doubles champion in Athens 2004, arrived at the captaincy at the age of 33. His passion for the Davis Cup is demonstrated by his 56 qualifiers (with a balance of 32 wins and 24 defeats). He has the technical support of another of the big Chilean tennis players, former world number one Marcelo Ríos.
